About Us - Fairgrounds Golf Course

Located in the center of the Sonoma County Fairgrounds Race Track, the course first opened in 1960 as the Fairgrounds Golf Center. It soon established a reputation as an ideal practice facility. With a multi-station driving range, ideal for both short and long irons, and a large putting and chipping green, along with its 9 hole executive course, the Golf Center became a popular venue for beginners, as well as players looking for a quick 9 holes or tuning up their game.

In 2003 a decision was made to install a turf race track inside the regular track, which meant closing the Fairgrounds Golf Center. As the turf track required state of the art irrigation and drainage, the golf course had to, in essence, be leveled. Knowing the popularity of the golf course throughout the community, a decision was made to redesign and rebuild the golf course. Taking advantage of the turf track's well above average drainage system, The Fairgrounds Golf Course is playable year around, even right after a heavy downpour!

The redesign included relocation of the driving range. With 15 stations, 4 target greens, distance markers every 25 yards up to 225, this lighted range is continuously receiving accolades as the best in the area! There is now a large putting and a separate chipping green with 2 practice bunkers.

When the course was leveled the old style push-up greens became things of the past. The redesign included all new and modern greens similar to those found on all championship courses. Even though there are just 9 greens, as each hole has 2 sets of tees, it plays like an 18 hole executive course. View the scorecard and distances for each of the 18 holes.

On April 1, 2006 the "all new" Fairgrounds Golf Course and Learning Center reopened, and is now known as the area's premier practice facility. Because of our dedication to Junior Golf and growing the game, The National Golf Course Owner's Association has awarded the course Beginner Friendly Certification! We're quite proud of the fact that we are 1 of only 3 courses certified as Beginner Friendly in the North Bay.
